My name is Mariafernanda Cuevas, Ms. Cuevas to your students. I am super excited to be teaching your students this year. Some of you may know me as the formal 21st Century program leader for 7th and 8th grade, needless to say I am very happy and excited to be teaching 6th grade! I have quite the mixture of classes and labs planned for this school year. Although I will be teaching ELA, Math and Religion, I will be the main 6th grade Earth Science teacher.
Throughout this school year I will lead and guide our 6th graders to love and understand the oh so beautifully crafted planet Earth, a most precious gift of God. Earth Science provides the opportunity to think, investigate, and study the vast array of knowledge concerning this world that God created. The relationship between science, our environment, and our everyday worldview is crucial to each student’s success. I am passionate about our world and all that we have to learn about it. With my understanding I hope to foster curiosity for our sixth graders to become excited and learn the skills to understand, respect, and love our planet earth more.
I have been an educator for about three years, including last year at St. Elizabeths. My main focus was creative writing, art and ESL. I graduated about two years ago, with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies, Philosophy and Religion from Holy Names University; where I am also pursuing Masters in Multiple Subjects in Urban Education and Credential. I also have a bit of a science background as my initial goal as an undergrad was to be a nurse. I fell in love with teaching and my faith. I love to interact with my students, and guide, as I watch them grow to their full potential. I feel very blessed to be a part of this St. Elizabeth community.
